It's on the Internet it must be true !

Anyone with a computer and a little knowledge can create a web site.  There is no ruling body that checks to make sure claims made on the internet are completely true.  Some web sites look very official and intelligent when really they are created by people with their own ideas and agendas.  Use common sense when you are online.

Interesting site.

This is a news article about Inhalants that Mrs. Hammond passed on to the teachers.   I thought parents might be interested in the current information.

Sometimes a file is created in Microsoft Office 2007 and this file cannot be opened when it is sent to someone using Microsoft Office 2003.   The solution to the problem is a patch program you have to download and install.  This will allow Office 2003 to translate the file to something it can understand.  It is not a perfect system but it is the only solution to the problem.  You can download the patch from Microsoft or you can get it by clicking on the link below.  Save it to your desktop and then run after the download is complete.

K-3 students are working very hard to increase their Reading Fluency Rate.  By the end of First grade your child should be reading 60 words a minute.   When they finish Second grade they should be reading 90 words per minute.  When students have completed Third grade they should be able to read 115 words per minute.  Did you know that approximately 300 words make up sixty five percent of all written material in English.  That means if your child can recognize 300 to 1000 words by sight they will be a better reader.   If  you would like a list of the most commonly used words in the English language you can follow the link below.

Every day we get e-mails about some sad little orphan or a missing child.   Perhaps you have been waiting for your free rebate from Gerber Baby food.  Microsoft has been tracking you and the e-mails you send ?  These are just a few of the Urban legends that are common in e-mails we get every day.  People will often get defensive when you tell them the information is false.   These e-mails clog our networks and some of them contain hidden viruses.  If you are unsure about an e-mail here is a good site about these urban legends.

If severe weather threatens.   We want everyone to be safe in case of a severe weather threat.   Remember parents our school is a safe area.   We have a severe weather plan and would never put your child on a bus home in a severe thunderstorm.  Students would be held at RSES until the threat has passed.   Our building is designed with hallways that serve as a storm shelter.  We hope parents won't risk traveling in severe weather to pick up their child.  In case of severe weather listen to the local radio stations for school information.

Free Stuff.

Free stuff is not always free.  Be wary of any offers on the internet that sounds too good to be true.   Get a free ipod for just filling out a survey.   What they forget to tell  you is how many forms you have to fill out and then you have to purchase so many offers from their friends before you get your ipod.  You may spend more than you would if you had actually bought the device.  There are some free offers on the internet.   Some websites filter these offers into categories of interest.  There is no perfect free offer site.   Check here from time to time and we will try to find and list the better ones.  If you know a good freebies website pass it along and we will share it with others.

Weekly Freebies is an ok site with some free offers

Totally Free Stuff has some interesting stuff.

Citters, Bugs, Cooties, or just Lice.        Every year we send special letters home about our creepy crawly friends.  This year is no different.  We are seeing a few cases in our school this year.   We need to catch them early to stop them from spreading.   We have all heard the old adage "its not a disgrace to have lice, but it is to keep them".  You can find more information about these little critters by clicking on our little friend.
